THE SECOND BEAST

THE BEAST RISING FROM OUT OF THE EARTH  - Chapter 13:11-18

v.1 "And I stand on the sand of the sea"(aorist active)
vv.11 & 12 From this vantage point John also sees the apparently stable land. What threat could arrise from the land?

Earth (gh) can also be translated land which would be reasonable since John stands on the sea shore, between the land and the sea.

"the land"

Compare 10:2 The mighty angel with the little scroll "placed his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land [Gk. gh]"

The land represents rationalist "civilised" mankind that observes social graces and "political correctness".

Danger from the land

John sees danger from both sides, from impulsive mankind and rationalist mankind

"I see another beast" (aorist active)

We are so far introduced to:-
the dragon "cast down to earth", the viscous sea beast and now another beast.

This beast rises up from out of civilised mankind. So how does the dragon make use of this beast to his avantage.

"two horns like a lamb"

This beast is similar to the first beast but it is "civilised" apparently reasonable yet subtly dangerous.

2 Corinthians 11:14 ...no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

"spoke like a dragon"

He is viciously shrewd in promoting evil .

"all the authority of the first beast"

He holds sway over civilised mankind like the visceous beast does over turbulent mankind and the visceous beast is well aware of it.

vv.13 & 14 "

2 Thesalonians 2:9  WHOSE IS COMING ACCORDING TO [THE] WORKING OF SATAN IN EVERY POWER AND SIGNS AND WONDERS OF FALSEHOOD

vv.15 to 16 "
v.17 "
v.18 "for it is humankind"

The Greek word here is anthropos [anqrwpoV]. It is not gender specific. It  can refer to both male and female and mankind in general.

Matthew 4:4 ... It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone ...

Hebrews 8:2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man

1 Peter 1:24 ... all flesh is like grass, and all the glory of man like the flower of grass. The grass withers and its flower falls away:

If a particuar male was intended then one would expect to see the Greek word aner [aner] which refers to males only.
